Ladyjacks Fifth After Day One in Arlington

ARLINGTON, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sits fifth after the opening round of the 2015 Prairie View A&M Invitational in Arlington. The Ladyjacks posted a 2-3 record on the day but remain fifth with a 204.1 average.
SFA opened up the tournament with a bang, knocking off third-ranked Arkansas State 1,126-928. The Ladyjacks eclipsed the 200-pin mark in four of the five games against the Red Wolves, including bowling a 265 in game five and a 259 in game four to spark SFA to the victory.
The Ladyjacks then bowled ninth-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore and started out on a positive note as well, taking the first two games 235-204 and 223-221. But the Hawks responded to down SFA in the next three, taking the 1,136-1,015 victory and dropping the Ladyjacks to 1-1 on the day.
Up next was top-ranked Nebraska as the Cornhuskers took four of the five games against the Ladyjacks, upending SFA 1,166 to 996. SFA did score over 200 in a pair of games, defeating Nebraska 200-188 in the second and reaching 214 in the fourth.
Facing host Prairie View A&M, SFA found its winning touch again as the Ladyjacks defeated the Panthers 976-950, improving to 2-2 on the day. SFA won four of the five games against Prairie View, including a 209-183 decision in game one and a 194-180 victory in game five to close out the match.
The final match of the day pitted SFA against fifth-ranked Sam Houston State as the Ladyjacks took two of the first three games against the rival Bearkats. But Sam Houston got some key frames when it counted, slipping past the Ladyjacks 1,029-990.
