Stephen F. Austin returns to action for the third time in as many weeks, but is excited to remain in the Lone Star state. The Ladyjacks make the short trip to Arlington for the 2015 Prairie View Invitational hosted by Prairie View A&M University. The three-day event begins Friday, January 30th before wrapping up Sunday, February 1st.
Tournament Information
The 2015 Prairie View Invitational is a three-day event being held at the International Training and Research Center in Arlington. Friday’s competition will mark the school’s fourth year competing in the tournament. To begin, teams will compete starting at 12:15 pm, in a five set baker style, followed by Saturday’s five-match traditional series that will begin at 9:25 am. Sunday will mark the end of the traditional style matches and the tournament will conclude with teams competing in the best-of-seven baker-style bracket play. The final day is set to begin at 9:50 am.
Participating Teams
SFA is one of 12 teams competing in the event which will be one of the most challenging of the year as the field will feature 10 of the top-20 teams in the latest NTCA Coaches Poll. The eighth-ranked Ladyjacks will be joined by nine other top-10 ranked programs, including top-ranked Nebraska, second-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson, third-ranked Arkansas State, fourth-ranked Central Missouri, fifth-ranked Sam Houston State, sixth-ranked Vanderbilt, ninth-ranked Maryland-Eastern Shore, and 10th-ranked North Carolina A&T. 15th-ranked Valparaiso will also be competing in the tournament with Alabama State and Prairie View A&M rounding out the 12-team field. The Ladyjacks hold winning records against Maryland Eastern Shore (2-1), North Carolina (5-2), and Alabama State (3-0).
SFA Travel Squad
Head coach Amber Lemke will bring seven players to the Prairie View Tournament this weekend led by senior Chelsea King. Junior Danielle Lynn, sophomores Kiara Grant and Paige Kraushaar and freshmen Kelsi Anderson, Morgan Reising and Stephanie Schwartz round out the Ladyjack competitors.

Last Time Out
SFA competed in the Kutztown Invitational this past weekend and went 2-1 over the final day of competition. This left the Ladyjacks finishing seventh among the 27-team field. SFA posted an 11-3 record over the three-day event, concluding with a 201.2 scoring average. The Lumberjacks faced a host of challenging teams including North Carolina A&T that will also be attending this weeks competition in Arlington.
Looking Ahead
Following this weekend’s trip to Arlington, Texas the Jacks are excited to host their first very own tournament in Houston, Texas. SFA’s first annual Storming Jacks Classic will begin Friday, February 13th, but don’t worry despite the date, there’s nothing unlucky about this competition that will conclude on Sunday February 15th.
