BEAUMONT, Texas – Senior Jacob Parker recorded his second double-double of the season and sophomore Dallas Cameron netted a career-high 13 points as the Stephen F. Austin men’s basketball team rolled over Lamar 82-65 on Monday night inside Montagne Center.
Parker finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds, as the ‘Jacks (17-3, 7-0 SLC) improved to 7-0 in Southland Conference play. With the win over the Cardinals (10-10, 4-4 SLC), SFA also extended its nation-leading conference streak to 29 consecutive victories, also picking up its 16th straight overall triumph on the season, which ranks third amongst all Division I teams.
Parker amassed 16 second-half points in finishing 7-of-13 from the floor with a made 3-pointer and 5-of-7 from the foul line. The native of Bixby, Oklahoma, crashed the boards for six pull-downs on either end of the court to tie his season-high.
Cameron also recorded an impressive shooting performance, taxing LU for 13 points off the bench. He shot 4-of-8 from the field with three hits from deep and a 2-for-2 showing from the charity stripe. In all, the ‘Jacks outscored the Cards 37-9 in reserve players.
Junior Jared Johnson rounded out the double-figure performances for SFA with 11 points, as the ‘Jacks shot 40 percent (26-65) from the field, 34.6 percent (9-26) from 3-point land and 80.8 percent (21-26) from the free throw line. Junior Trey Pinkney dished out five assists and had zero turnovers.
SFA’s defensive effort was stifling in the opening half. The ‘Jacks opened on a 9-0 run and forced 10 turnovers across the first eight minutes, turning them into 17 points, to lead LU 19-6.
Up 13 points at 21-8 (7:54), the Cards went on a 5-0 run over the next 1:50 to get SFA’s advantage under double figures. However, the ‘Jacks closed on an 18-10 run to take a 39-23 lead into the break.
Despite a 25-point second half by LU’s Anthony Holliday, SFA’s lead never dipped below 11 points en route to the 82-65 final.
The ‘Jacks will now begin preparation for a two-game homestand inside William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA will host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday, Jan. 31, at 6 p.m., before facing Houston Baptist (Feb. 7).
