NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Junior Thomas Walkup netted a career-high 34 points and senior Jacob Parker became Stephen F. Austin's all-time winningest player at the Division I level in a 95-59 win over Houston Baptist on Saturday night inside William R. Johnson Coliseum.
Parker recorded his 98th career victory for the Lumberjacks (19-3, 9-0 SLC) to surpass former teammate Desmond Haymon, who set the previous mark of 97 wins last season.
Walkup paced SFA against the Huskies (10-10, 5-5 SLC), finishing 13-of-15 from the floor and 8-of-10 from the foul line. The native of Pasadena, Texas, also pulled down seven rebounds, dished out five assists and tied another career-high with three steals.
Parker and junior Clide Geffrard each finished with 16 points. Parker netted 6-of-11 shots, including two from deep, and a pair of free throws, while Geffrard established a new career-high on 6-of-10 shooting with a 3-pointer and three hits from the charity stripe.
The `Jacks outscored HBU 48-28 in the paint, 24-13 off turnovers, 19-13 in second chance opportunities and 8-4 in the fast break.
SFA dictated the game from the opening tip, opening on an 8-0 run and forcing six of the 21 Husky turnovers across the first three minutes of the game.
Up 14-6, Walkup pushed the `Jacks back up by double figures, netting his 12th point on a three-point play with 13:02 on the clock. A 4-0 run by HBU then narrowed the lead to seven points, before SFA responded with a 6-0 run to make it 23-10. The advantage for the `Jacks never waned below double-figures the rest of the way in taking a 47-27 advantage into the lockerroom.
SFA held the Huskies without a made basket for 7:58 into the second half and led by as much as 45 points (74-29) en route to the 95-59 final.
The `Jacks will now hit the road for three straight games, starting with Northwestern State on Monday, Feb. 9. SFA and the Demons will meet in a 6:30 p.m. tip inside Prather Coliseum.
