
Ladyjacks Fifth After Day Two in Arkansas

JONESBORO, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin had another strong showing at the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Invitational, posting a 4-1 record on the second day of the event. The Ladyjacks are now 7-2 through the opening two rounds and sit fifth in the team standings with a 196.5 average.
Sophomore Kiara Grant maintained her impressive play, sitting third in the individual standings with a 207.9 average and will earn the first all-tournament honors of her career Sunday. Freshman Stephanie Schwartz and senior Chelsea King sit 12th and 13th in the individual standings as well as the duo have each posted a 203.9 scoring average.
SFA opened up the second day of competition going head-to-head with rival Sam Houston State and kept its winning ways going, notching a convincing 1,017-901 over the Bearkats. Junior Danielle Lynn led the way for the Ladyjacks with a 246 with Schwartz recording a 213 and Grant bowling a 211.
SFA then met up with top-ranked Nebraska, suffering a 996-954 loss to the Cornhuskers. King’s 206 was the top score for the Ladyjacks with Grant adding a 204 and freshman Morgan Reising adding a 197.
The Ladyjacks would respond to win the final three matches of the day, beginning with a 1,031-865 decision over Valparaiso. Three Ladyjacks bowled in the 200s, led by Lynn’s 219, Schwartz’ 218 and a 213 from King.
SFA then outlasted Tulane 955-911 in round four, paced by a 223 from Lynn and a 216 from King. The Ladyjacks then closed out the two days of traditional matches with a 923-838 victory over Alabama State, improving to 4-1 on the day and 7-2 for the tournament. Reising’s 215 led SFA with King bowling a 193 and Grant finishing with a 190.
SFA now looks to try and capture its first team tournament of the season as the Mid-Winter Invite enters the best-of-seven baker style bracket play. The Ladyjacks open up with Vanderbilt in the first of three rounds as the Commodores sit sixth in the team standings.
