NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin’s reach will extend all the way to Hong Kong over the next two weeks as bowling signee Stephanie Schwartz is one of eight bowlers selected to be on the Junior Team USA roster for the World Bowling Youth Championships.
The Racine, Wis., native was selected to USA Junior Team after placing first in the trials in January, then was selected to the squad to represent the U.S. after a week long camp in Arlington. The World Championships begin August 8th and run through the 15th as the United States is the reigning champions in the boys and girls four-player team event.
“We are so excited that Stephanie has been given this wonderful opportunity to represent the U.S.A.,” said head coach Amber Lemke. “Stephanie has a heart of gold and puts a lot of work into her game. She is the first player on the team that has been a part of the Junior Team and we look forward to having her in our program and watch it flourish.”
Schwartz has already compiled an impressive career through her high school years, capturing the Wisconsin state championship in 2014 after posting a runner-up finish in 2012. She helped lead Washington Park High School to the team state title in 2011 while finishing second in 2013.
Schwartz placed 13th at the 2014 USBC Team USA Trials and is ranked among the top-five in the country with a 219.0 scoring average, notching a pair of perfect games in the process. She also has four Junior Bowlers Scholarship Tour individual titles under her belt, capturing the year-end championship in 2013. Last month she finished fifth at the Junior Gold Championships in Buffalo, N.Y.
Schwartz will begin competing with the Ladyjacks this fall as SFA is coming off the best season performance in program history. SFA placed among the top-five in eight of its 10 events on the year, including the first two team titles in program history, earning a pair of All-America honors while landing eight on the NTCA All-Academic squad.
Stay tuned to SFAJacks.com as Schwartz will have a blog set up to keep Ladyjack fans up to date on all the happenings from Hong Kong.
