
Phelps Garners All-America Scholar Honors

NORMAN, Okla. - Stephen F. Austin senior golfer Bradley Phelps has been named a 2014 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar, announced by the organization.

Coming off his best season as a Lumberjack, Phelps competed in 11 events for SFA, recording a career-best scoring average of 75.06 over 33 rounds. He posted three top-10 finishes, including tying for third at the Moe O'Brien Intercollegiate and tying for eighth overall at the Southland Conference Championships, earning honorable mention All-SLC honors.
In two seasons in Nacogdoches, Phelps has a career scoring average of 76.25 over 51 rounds, including a low round of 69 set in 2014. Phelps has four top-10 finishes under his belt and has been strong in summer tournaments, capturing the individual title at the CPT Gleannloch Open last month as he prepares for his senior season.
Phelps is one of just four current Southland Conference golfers to make the prestigious list, joining Grady Brame and Baptist Courtachon from Southeastern Louisiana and Jeffrey Merrell from Houston Baptist. Former SLC member Oral Roberts also placed one golfer on the list.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 (Division I), and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
