SFA Finishes Four Under Par at Jim West

2014 Jim West Intercollegiate Final Results 
McKINNEY, Texas - Stephen F. Austin made its move over the final 18 holes of the Jim West Intercollegiate, posting a 1-over 289 and jumping two spots to finish sixth out of a competitive 14-team field. The Lumberjacks closed out the 54-hole event with a 4-under 860, finishing two strokes out of its fourth top-five finish of the season.
Sophomore Luke Sheehan posted the low round of the day for SFA, firing a 2-under 70 to finish tied for 20th overall with a 1-under 215. He ended the tournament tied with redshirt freshman teammate Baxter Ward, who carded an even-par 72 over the final round to finish with the 1-under 215 (73-70-72). It marks the seventh top-20 finish of the season for Sheehan and the fourth for Ward.
Juniors Blake Pugh and Bradley Phelps tied for 39th overall as the duo both shot a 5-over 221. Pugh notched a 5-over 77 on the day (74-70-77) while Phelps recovered from a rough second round to notch a 2-over 74 (69-78-74).
Sophomore Major Monzingo posted a 1-over 73 on Tuesday to finish with a 6-over 222 (79-70-73), setting a new career-low for a 54-hole tournament by one stroke. Freshman Cory Brown finished with a 12-over 228 (73-76-79) competing as an individual.
Beginning the day in eighth-place overall, the `Jacks were able to move up two spots in the team standings, leapfrogging Southland Conference rivals Central Arkansas and McNeese State. SFA finished four shots ahead of the seventh-place Bears (E-864) and finished just two shots back of fifth-place UT-Arlington (6-under 858), just missing its fourth top-five showing.
10th-ranked Virginia ran away with the team title, carding a 45-over 819 and defeating second-place Iowa State (16-under) by 29 strokes. Louisiana-Monroe (12-under 852) placed third with Sam Houston State (7-under 857) and UTA rounding out the top-five.
With the Jim West Intercollegiate now behind it, SFA sets its sights on the final tournament of 2013-14 as the `Jacks prepare for the 2014 Southland Conference Championships. The tournament will be held at Stonebridge Ranch Country Club, getting underway Monday, April 21st before wrapping up Wednesday, April 23rd.
