2014 SLC Championships Round One Results
MAGNOLIA, Texas – Led by freshman Piper Kyle’s 1-under 71, Stephen F. Austin currently sits fourth following the opening round of the 2014 Southland Conference Championships. The Ladyjacks fired a 23-over 310 through the opening 18 holes as Kyle is tied for first individually.
Kyle had a strong start for SFA, recording birdies on four of the first six holes before bogeys on seven and eight left her with a 2-under 34 through nine. Kyle then notched a pair of birdies and three bogeys on the back nine, finishing with the 1-under 71 and setting a program record for the lowest tournament score in the SLC tournament.
Sophomore Sydney Reed is tied for 13th overall in the individual standings after carding a 5-over 77 through the first 18 holes, including a 1-over 37 over the front nine. Freshman Jessica White and senior Aliece Anderson both shot a 9-over 81 on the day with freshman Ann Holcomb rounding out the scorecard with an 11-over 83.
SFA’s 23-over 310 is the second-lowest team round in program history in the conference tournament, one stroke back of the 309 posted in the first round of 2013. The Ladyjacks enter Wednesday’s second round with a one stroke lead on Oral Roberts (24-over 311) and two shots ahead of sixth-place McNeese State (24-over 312).
Lamar and Central Arkansas are tied for the overall lead after round one with a 16-over 304 through the opening 18 holes. The Cardinals and Sugar Bears lead third place Sam Houston State (17-over 305) by one stroke and are just six shots ahead of the Ladyjacks.
Wednesday’s second round gets underway at 8 a.m. with the Ladyjacks teamed up with both McNeese State and Oral Roberts. Holcomb will be the first Ladyjack to tee off at 9:20 a.m., leading up to Kyle’s starting time of 9:52. Live scoring of the event will be available at Golfstat.com.
