NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin raced out to a 12-0 lead in the opening two minutes and never looked back, cruising to a 72-52 victory over Oral Roberts at William R. Johnson Coliseum. SFA led by as many as 31, notching its fifth-straight win.
With SFA's victory over the Golden Eagles, combined with a Central Arkansas loss to Northwestern State, the Ladyjacks moved into a three-way tie for first place in the Southland Conference with the Sugar Bears and Lamar. SFA and Central Arkansas play Saturday at 4 p.m. with the winner capturing at least a share of the SLC regular season crown.
Porsha Roberts had another impressive performance, finishing with 23 points and nine rebounds, one point shy of matching her season high, while tying a career-best with four assists. Antionette Carter added 14 points and eight rebounds for the Ladyjacks with Tierany Henderson and Brentney Branch each finishing with 11 points on the evening.
With Branch and Carter's combined 25 points the Ladyjacks took advantage of their bench. SFA tallied 27 points off the bench. ORU also got production from its bench with 23 points.
