Ladyjacks Tie For Ninth in Mississippi

2014 Lady Eagle Invitational Final Results 
HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Stephen F. Austin closed out the first part of its spring break road trip by tying for ninth at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational. The Ladyjacks shot a 69-over 645 for the 36-hole event, including a 38-over 326 in round two.
Beginning the day in sole possession of ninth-place, SFA wasn't able to make any ground on the field, ending the tournament tied with Western Kentucky and finishing three shots back of Alabama-Birmingham (66-over 642). SFA has now finished among the top-10 of the team standings in all seven events on the season.
Sophomore Mackenzie Steiner posted the best round of the day for the Ladyjacks, shooting a 7-over 79 to finish the event tied for 28th overall with a 15-over 159 (80-79). She tied freshman teammate Piper Kyle, who reversed Steiner's scores with a 79 in round one and an 8-over 80 in round two.
Freshman Ann Holcomb tied for 42nd overall with an 18-over 162 (78-84), five shots better than both sophomore Sydney Reed (82-85) and senior Aliece Anderson's (84-83) 23-over 167. Anderson's round on Tuesday was significant as it marked the 103rd of her SFA career, moving her past Chelsea Simmons as the program's all-time leader for career rounds played.
Host Southern Miss captured the team title with a 32-over 608, defeating runner-up Memphis (35-over 611) by three strokes. South Alabama (38-over 614) placed third with Southland Conference foe Houston Baptist (41-over 617) and Murray State (45-over 621) rounding out the top-five.
SFA returns to action later this week to complete the second half of its spring break road swing. The Ladyjacks will be in Orange Park, Fla., competing in the JMU Eagle Landing Invitational. The 54-hole tournament get underway Thursday, March 14th, before wrapping up Saturday, March 16th.
