Baxter Ward Named SLC Golfer of the Month

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin sophomore Baxter Ward has been named the Southland Conference Men’s Golfer of the Month for November, announced today by the league office. It is the first conference accolade of Ward’s SFA career.
Ward captured the honor after recording the first individual tournament title of his career at the ASU Fall Beach Classic on November 4th. Ward posted an even-par 216, including a 3-under 69 in round two, tying teammate Luke Sheehan for the individual crown. Ward then bested his teammate in a playoff hole, sinking a 10-foot birdie putt to seal the victory.
It was the fourth top-10 finish of Ward’s SFA career and the second this season after tying for third at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Through the fall season, Ward ranks second on the team with a 73.21 scoring average, including a low round of 68 at the Jim Rivers, lowering his career scoring average to 74.48.
The Armidale, Australia native helped SFA record four top-10 finishes in the fall season as a team, including capturing the team championship at the ASU Fall Beach Classic after notching a runner-up showing at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate. Ward and the rest of the Lumberjacks return to action in March when the spring season gets underway at the Wallace Jones ULM Warhawk Intercollegiate March 23-24 in Delhi, La.
