
Ladyjacks Notch Perfect Saturday at Mid-Winter Invite

JONESBORO, Ark. – Stephen F. Austin posted a perfect 4-0 mark at the Mid-Winter Invitational as the Ladyjacks improved to 6-3 over the three-day tournament. The fourth-ranked Ladyjacks knocked off a pair of top-10 teams, setting their sights on the final round of competition Sunday.
SFA opened the day facing seventh-ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater and got the day off to a strong start, overpowering the Warhawks with a 1,013-856 victory. Senior Whitney McCoy led the way for the Ladyjacks, bowling a 237, followed by a 231 from fellow senior Nicole Parkhurst. Sophomore Melanie Crawford also had a strong showing, recording a 225 to help secure the victory.
The second match of the day saw a close one that came down to the final frame as SFA edged out Bethune-Cookman 908-903. McCoy once again paced SFA with a 231, finishing as the only Ladyjack to eclipse the 200-point plateau. Parkhurst bowled a 183 with both junior Chelsea King and freshman Paige Kraushaar notching a 169 in the victory over the Wildcats.
Round three matched SFA against eighth-ranked Vanderbilt as once again the Ladyjacks prevailed, edging out the Commodores for a 973-943 victory. Three Ladyjacks surpassed 200 points on the match, led by Crawford’s 228, followed by 202 from Parkhurst and 200 from McCoy as SFA improved to 3-0 on the season against Vandy.
The final matchup of the day pitted SFA against 17th-ranked Valparaiso as the Ladyjacks closed out the day with a perfect 4-0 record, taking down the Crusaders 957-888. King led SFA by bowling a 207, one pin better than Parkhurst’s 206. Both Crawford and sophomore Danielle Lynn bowled a 183, helping SFA improve to 6-3 through the first two days of the Mid-Winter Invitational.
Thanks to its performance on the day, SFA currently sits in fifth-place among the 14-team field, bowling a 9,883 along with its 6-3 record. Nebraska currently leads the three-day event (10,254), followed by top-ranked Arkansas State (10,012), Central Missouri (9,994) and Sam Houston State (9,900).
Sunday’s final round gets underway at 9:30 as the teams compete in three best-of-seven matches, beginning with SFA opening up with another showdown with Vanderbilt.
