FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Stephen F. Austin senior golfer Mitchell McLeroy (-4) will enter the final round of the NCAA Regional Championships in a three-way tie for first place following a second round one-under 71 Friday at Blessings Golf Course.
After a bogey on the second hole of the day to fall to one under, McLeroy battled back on Nos. 15-16 to move into a tie for first place. The Mansfield, Texas native birdied the two holes to move to one under on the day, and into a four-way tie for first on the leaderboard.
McLeroy momentarily fell out of first place when he bogeyed on No. 2, but he battled back into a three-way tie for first after recording a birdie on No. 3. He then shot par over holes 4-6 before closing the day with a birdie on 7, bogey on 8 and par on 9.
McLeroy will look to earn the top individual spot Saturday in the final round of the NCAA Fayetteville Regional. If McLeroy is the top individual finisher, not on an advancing team, he will earn an automatic berth to the NCAA Championships.
McLeroy will be in the final group to start on No. 10 Saturday. He is slated to tee off at 9:50 a.m. with Missouri-Kansas City's Antoine Rozner and Alabama State's Francis Berthiaume.
