
`Jacks Move Up at SLC Championships

MCKINNEY, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack men’s golf team knocked six strokes off their opening round on the par-72, 7,346-yard Stonebridge Country Club in McKinney, Texas, to move up to third place Tuesday at the Southland Conference Championships.
Freshman Luke Sheehan currently represents the team as the lone ‘Jack in the top ten. The Cypress, Texas, native sits in a three-way tie for fifth place after firing a seven-over 79 in the second round.
Blake Pugh, after struggling in the opening round, improved by nine strokes in day two. The sophomore finished the day one stroke over par. Pugh, who was 29th after the first day, now sits in a three-way tie for 12th.
Teammates Major Monzingo and Bradley Phelps share 15th place, sitting one stroke back of Pugh. Monzingo cut two strokes off his opening round, firing a 77, while Phelps repeated his first round score with another 78.
Austin DeWitt, who was added to the roster with the illness to Mitchell McLeroy, carded an 81 in his first round of play.
SFA will retake the course at 8 a.m. Wednesday morning for the final round of 18 holes.
