The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack men's golf team fired a 313 Monday morning on the par 72 Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas, to finish the day fourth overall at the Southland Conference Championships. The 'Jacks are currently in the middle of the pack despite not having the services of senior Mitchell McLeroy who missed the opening round due to an illness.
Freshman Luke Sheehan stepped up to fill the void in McLeroy's absence firing a two-over 74 in the opening round. The Cypress, Texas native, enters Tuesday's second round tied for third.
Classmate Bradley Phelps recorded the team's second-lowest round with a six-over 78 to sit tied for 14th overall. Freshman Major Monzingo is a stroke back of Phelps after the first round of 18 holes. Sophomore Blake Pugh struggled on the opening day, and will have some ground to make up in the final two days of action. Pugh shot a 10-over 82 and sits tied for 29th overall.
The Lumberjacks will be back on the course at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning for the second round of 18 holes.
