MONROE, La. - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team shot a 304-295 - 599 on the opening day of the ULM/Wallace Jones Invitational Monday afternoon in Monroe, La. The Lumberjacks are fourth on the 6,822-yard, par-72 Calvert Crossing Country Club course with 18 holes to play.
Junior Mitchell McLeroy is in the hunt for his second-straight individual title after firing and even par 144 over two rounds Monday. McLeroy is third overall. Senior Michael Smith is in the midst of his best round of the semester only four strokes back. He is currently tied for fourth overall with a 148.
Senior Stetson McMillan has some ground to make up after an opening-round 79, but began the process of climbing the ladder Monday afternoon. McMillan cut five strokes off his opening round score to finish the day tied for 24th (79-74-153). Freshman Cody Wing is tied for 28th with an opening-day 77-78 - 155. Classmate Blake Pugh rounded out the day with tied for 41st two strokes back of Wing (157).
The 'Jacks will close out the ULM/Wallace Jones Invitational Tuesday morning at 8 a.m. SFA will be among the first group teeing off the front nine.
