
Ladyjacks Fall 3-1 To ULM In Extra Innings

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The ULM Warhawks erased a 1-0 deficit with three runs combined in the seventh and eighth innings to edge the Ladyjacks 3-1 Thursday afternoon at the SFA Softball Field.
After a scoreless pitching duel through the first five innings, SFA took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the sixth on a clutch two-out RBI single to left field by freshman first baseman Katelyn Mixon, scoring Cadie Weaver from second base.
However, down to their final three outs, the Warhawks got a leadoff home run from freshman Alexis Cacioppo to left-center field off SFA starting pitcher Carlie Thomas to tie the game 1-1.
The Ladyjacks went in order in their half of the seventh inning, sending the game to extra innings. ULM (19-18) then scored two runs in the eighth, both coming with two outs. Haley McCall put the Warhawks on top 2-1 with an RBI single to left and the lead was then extended with another RBI base hit from Cacioppo to make the score 3-1.
ULM starting pitcher Haylie Wilson (11-3) pitched eight complete innings to earn the victory, allowing just the one earned run on five hits, two walks and three strikeouts. Thomas (8-11) took the loss despite pitching a solid eight innings and allowing the three runs on nine hits while striking out four.
SFA (13-28) will next host Central Arkansas this weekend starting tomorrow at 2 p.m. before ending the series Saturday at1 p.m.
