'Jacks Take Lead at Jim West Intercollegiate

VICTORIA, Texas - Junior Mitchell McLeroy and senior Stetson McMillan went one-two on the first day of the Jim West Intercollegiate in Victoria, Texas to give the Stephen F. Austin men a six-stroke advantage against the 12-team field Sunday afternoon. SFA finished the day with a four-under par 284.
The Lumberjacks had three players who shot par or better, and enter the second day of action among the overall top 11. Led by McLeroy who shot a five-under par 67 on the 6,870-yard, par-72 course at the Victory Country Club. McLeroy takes a two-stroke lead over teammate Stetson McMillan who is second overall with a three-under 69.
Freshman Blake Pugh is only five strokes off the lead after Sunday's opening round and is currently in a five-way tie for 11th in the standings after shooting par. Senior Michael Smith is currently tied for 46th overall with a four-over 76. Freshman Cody Wing has some ground to make up in the final two rounds. He is currently tied for 64th overall with a nine-over 81.
The Lumberjacks will tee off the front nine beginning at 8:45 Tuesday morning. The 12-team field is slated to play 18 holes Monday, and the final 18 on Tuesday.
