RUSTON, La. - The No. 43 Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team rebounded from its heartbreaking loss Friday afternoon with a road victory Sunday. SFA made quick work of Louisiana Tech, 7-0, Sunday in Ruston. The win improves SFA to 17-3 (.850) on the season.
"The best way to get over a difficult loss is to come back and play well the next time out," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "Luckily we had the opportunity to end the weekend on a positive note, and we took advantage of it. Our effort and attitude was outstanding on the court."
The 'Jacks continued to their trend of quick starts taking a 1-0 lead after doubles play, but it wasn't easy. After recording an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 spot, Louisiana Tech evened things up with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. SFA pulled out the point out at No. 3 when freshman Elena Kordolaimi and sophomore Laura Servise recorded a 9-8 (7-5) victory.
That was as close as the match would get as the 'Jacks turned up the heat in singles play. SFA swept all six singles matches, including five wins in straight sets. Only freshman Tereza Bekerova was forced to a third before pulling out the win. The 'Jacks surrendered no more than three games in any of the straight-set wins. It marked the team's sixth shutout victory of the season.
The 'Jacks will be back in action Thursday when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 1 p.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
