Shazhko Named Southland Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas - Senior Alina Shazhko has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday afternoon. Shazhko guided the nation's 43rd-ranked team to wins over Lamar, Northwestern State and Sam Houston State to improve to 15-2 overall, and remain in a two-tie for first place in the conference standings (6-0).
Shazhko improved to 16-7 on the season in singles play, and 17-2 in doubles play with her success on the court. She won all three singles and doubles matches during last week, going 2-0 at No. 3 singles, 1-0 at No. 2 singles and 3-0 at No. 3 doubles with partner Jithmie Jayawickrema.
The 'Jacks' three wins during the week runs the overall win streak to 13 straight. The streak marks a new high mark for the program besting last year's nine-win stretch to start the season.
SFA returns to action Wednesday when they step on the court to host McNeese State. The match against the Cowgirls is slated to begin at noon from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
