SFA Golf Struggles on Opening Day of Border Olympics

LAREDO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team is 14th after recording rounds of 304 and 312 on the opening day of the Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas. Despite the team's struggles, junior Mitchell McLeroy fired a two-over 146 on the par 72 Laredo Country Club Course Friday afternoon. He is currently tied for seventh.
Unfortunately, SFA was unable to group anyone else near McLeroy. Senior Stetson McMillan fired seven-over par in the opening two rounds and is currently five strokes back of McLeroy (T33rd). Nacogdoches freshman Austin DeWitt and senior Jared Johnson are currently tied for tied for 78th after shooting a 161. DeWitt opened with a better first round score, while Johnson rallied in the second round.
Senior Michael Smith was unable the to find his rhythm all day finishing the two rounds with a 165. He is currently 87th overall.
SFA returns to action Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. to conclude the final round of action.
