SFA Men Are Seventh at Charleston Shootout

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team closed out its spring season opener with a seventh-place finish (295-285-303 - 883) Tuesday afternoon at the Charleston Shootout. SFA carried the momentum from senior Stetson McMillan's second-round five under par 67 on Monday, but the 'Jacks were unable to sustain that momentum in the final round.
McMillan carded the team's lowest score but struggled to a five-over 77 (218 -T14th) in the final round. Junior Mitchell McLeroy tied senior Michael Smith for the lowest round of the day with a 74. McLeroy finished tied for 17th overall (220) while Smith was two strokes back (T24th).
Freshmen Blake Pugh and sophomore Austin DeWitt each posted a 228 to finish tied for 46th overall. Classmate Cody Wing shot a 74-78-83 - 235 to finish tied for 71st.
The SFA men return to action in a rare weekend competition when they travel to Laredo, Texas to compete in the Border Olympics.
