CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team fired a four-over par 580 on the opening day of the Charleston Shootout on the Links at Stono Ferry Course Monday afternoon. SFA enters the final round seventh overall, only nine strokes out of the top three.
SFA is led by senior Stetson McMillan who fired a three-under 141. After carding a two over 74 in the opening round, McMillan battled back with one of the best round of his career with a five under 67. McMillan is currently tied for sixth overall.
Junior Mitchell McLeroy is five strokes back of McMillan with a two-over 146. McLeroy was one under after the opening round, but finished the day with a second round 75. McLeroy will enter the final round of competition tied for 21st overall.
Senior Michael Smith is currently tied for 33rd overall with an opening day 77-71 - 148. Nacogdoches freshman Austin DeWitt and classmate Blake Pugh are currently tied for 43rd overall with a six-over 150.
The Lumberjacks will close out the Charleston Shootout Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m.
