NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team will be in Starkville, Miss., Sunday to take on Mississippi State. Riding a four match win streak, and the momentum from its first-ever nationally ranked doubles team, SFA enters the match with a 6-2 (.750) record, while the Bulldogs are 3-1 (.750). Sunday's match is slated to begin at 1 p.m. from the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
The 'Jacks have been on a roll outscoring opponents 27-1 during their four-match win streak. The good news continued to pour in Thursday when senior Alina Shazhko and sophomore Jithmie Jayawickrema landed a No. 17 national ranking in doubles. The first-ever nationally ranked doubles team in school history, the duo enters the week 7-0, and has two top-30 wins under its belt.
Following its showdown against MSU, the 'Jacks will travel to Louisiana for four matches before returning home. SFA will take on Tulane Friday, Mar. 2, in New Orleans, before returning to conference action to face Southeastern Louisiana (Mar. 3) and Nicholls (Mar. 4). The 'Jacks will close out the trip with a 4 p.m. match against Louisiana-Lafayette in Lafayette on Sunday.
