NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2012 season gets even tougher for the Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team Wednesday when they travel to Waco, Texas, to face the No. 6 Baylor Lady Bears. The Lady Bears will place their national ranking on the line against an SFA team looking to gain national respect.
The 'Jacks are 2-1 (.667) and enter Wednesday's match looking for consecutive wins for the first time on the young season. SFA is coming off a 5-2 victory over Louisville last week, while Baylor is 5-0 coming off wins over instate foes Prairie View A&M, Houston, and Tarleton State.
Despite the overwhelming youth on the squad, SFA has faired well in 2012. The 'Jacks posted a 6-1 win over Florida Atlantic with all freshmen in the starting lineup. SFA nearly pulled off an upset of No. 69 Illinois, dropping the match 5-2. The 'Jacks had leads at No. 1 doubles and in the third set of No. 1 singles but were unable to hold the momentum, which turned out to be the difference in the match.
Following Wednesday's match the 'Jacks will travel to Denton Friday to take on North Texas (11 a.m.). They will follow that up with a trip to Houston Saturday to face Colorado.
