NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In similar fashion to the 2011 season, a Stephen F. Austin women's tennis player has received the first Southland Conference Player of the Week honor of the year. Freshman Elena Kordolaimi has received the honor after helping the 'Jacks' to a 2-1 (.667) start on the young season.
A rookie from Lamia, Greece, Kordolaimi guided SFA to wins over Florida Atlantic and Louisville in the first week of the season. Kordolaimi was undefeated in singles play winning all three of her matches at No. 3 singles, and went 2-1 in doubles action.
Included in Kordolaimi's singles victories was a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5, decision over Illinois' Melissa Kopinski. The 'Jacks nearly upset the No. 69 team in the nation, but fell just short. Kordolaimi was one of three SFA wins against the Illini.
The 'Jacks return to action Wednesday when they travel to Waco, Texas, to face No. 6 Baylor. The match against the Lady Bears is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
