NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin's veteran offensive line has been named the Offensive Line of the Week announced Beyond Sports College Network (BSN) in a release Thursday morning. The line, which consists of three preseason all-conference selections, and a preseason All-America selection, garnered the praise for their efforts in helping SFA to an overwhelming victory in the opening week of the season.
The line consists of four returning starters from the 2010 season that saw SFA post a 9-3 record and its second-straight Southland Conference title. The lone non-returning starter, Austin Wright, earned starting honors prior to the 2010 season but had his year cut short by an injury. He battled his way back in the starting lineup during fall camp and is considered one of the top linemen in the league.
SFA's line was on the field for 95 plays and helped the 'Jacks record 668 yards of total offense, and protected the signal callers as they passed for 507 yards. Both marks rank as the fifth-best single-game mark in school history. The line also didn't surrender a sack despite putting the ball in the air 63 times.
The 'Jacks have led the nation in passing offense each of the past two seasons, and have been ranked among the nation's top 20 in pass protection each of the past two seasons. More pressure is being placed on the offensive line this year with the graduation of 2010 Walter Payton Award winner Jeremy Moses. Sophomore Brady Attaway recorded his first career start in Thursday's season-opening win.
