NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team posted an 11-1 (.917) record on the first day of competition in the SFASU Fall Invitational at the Schlief Tennis Complex. The tournament, which consists of some of the nation's top women's program, is the second home fall tournament for the 'Jacks.
SFA cruised through the singles' competition advancing players into Saturday's championship matches in Flights B and C singles, while picking up three wins in Flight E's round robin play. The team's lone singles' setback came at Flight A singles where freshman Tereza Bekerova dropped a hard fought 7-5, 6-4, decision to SMU's Adyta Cieplucha, who is a top 100 player. Bekerova enters Saturday's play with a 1-1 tournament record, and will face Northwestern State's Olga Bazhanova.
The setback is only the team's second loss of the fall schedule. SFA also dropped a doubles match in the fall season opener. The team will return to action Saturday for the final day of competition in the tournament.
