SFA Tennis Continues Its Winning Ways

NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team improved to 19-0 in singles play, and 9-1 in doubles play with an undefeated performance Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Northwestern State Invitational.
Freshman Tereza Bekerova recorded a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette's Audrey Wooland in Flight 1 singles. Classmate Malena Gordo followed with a straight-set victory over ULL's Milou Isreal in the second flight. Both players advanced to the finals of their respective flights following second round wins. Gordo won in straight sets, while Bekerova had to battle for a tough three-set victory to advance.
The SFA duo combined for an 8-4 win over UL-Lafayette's Isreal and Briggitt Marcovich, 8-4, in the top doubles' flight to make it a sweep of the opening day of competition. Bekerova and Gordo will open in the flight semifinals Saturday morning.
SFA returns to action Saturday for the second day of action at the invitational. All matches will be held at the Fisher Lady Demon Tennis Complex.
