NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin athletics department announced the addition of Kenny Bybee to the media relations staff Tuesday morning. He will serve as the primary contact for soccer, women's basketball, softball and bowling.
"We are very excited about the addition of Kenny to the media relations staff," said Director of Athletics Robert Hill. "He is very highly respected throughout the Southland Conference, and brings with him a great deal of experience at both the university and conference level. He will be a great asset to the athletics staff."
A 2008 graduate of Sam Houston State with a degree in journalism and a minor in English, Bybee most recently served an internship with the Southland Conference where he was responsible for the publicity of men's and women's tennis and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. He also assisted at the Southland Conference men and women's basketball championship tournament in Katy, Texas.
Bybee, a graduate of Brenham High School, spent two years at the University of North Texas as an intern in the sports information department. While there he served as the primary contact for soccer, cross-country and track while assisting with numerous other sports.
The 27-year-old was also the media relations director for the Dallas Vigilantes in 2010 in their inaugural season in the Arena Football League. While with the Vigilantes he wrote all press releases, coordinated interviews, controlled the press box at the American Airlines Center, ran the team's social networks and established media coverage from the likes of The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star Telegram and ESPNDallas.com.
Bybee has an extensive background in journalism where he was both the editor-in-chief and sports editor for Sam Houston State's student newspaper, The Houstonian, and was sports editor for The Blinn Log while attending Blinn Junior College. He also spent time at the Huntsville Item and the Brenham Banner-Press covering collegiate and high school sports.
