NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin junior-to-be Mitchell McLeroy qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship by recording a 74-66 - 140 at White Bluff Resort in Whitney, Texas, on Monday, July 18th.
A 2011 second-team All-Southland Conference selection, McLeroy set the competitive course record with a second-round, six-under par 66 to qualify. He was also one of only two players to qualify from the White Bluff Resort Course.
"We are all very excited for Mitchell," said head coach Trey Schroeder. "I've played the course before, and I know exactly how tough it is. Mitchell battled with some of the toughest competition in the country, beating Texas A&M's Conrad Schindler by three shots, and was clipped by Texas' Dylan Frittelli by only one stroke.
The amateur championship will take place Aug. 22-28 at Erin Hills in Erin, Wis. There will be approximately 312 amateur golfers at Erin Hills trying to qualify for the 64-player match play bracket.
