Junior Gralyn Crawford and senior Drew Nelson have been named to the 2011 College Football Performance Award (CFPA) Special Teams watch list announced award officials Monday afternoon. Crawford has been named to the return specialist list, while Nelson is receiving attention as one of the nation's top punters.
A first-team All-Southland Conference receiver last season, Crawford earned All-America honors as a return specialist. He finished the 2010 campaign among the nation's leaders with three kickoffs returned for a touchdown. Crawford, who averaged better than 28 yards per kickoff return, also returned a punt for a touchdown during his sophomore season.
Nelson has been the model of consistency during his time on campus averaging 41 yards per punt all three seasons. A three-time All-Southland Conference selection, Nelson garnered second-team all-conference honors following a junior season that saw him average 41.6 yards per punt, and record nine punts of 50 yards or more. Nelson enters his final year on campus with the third-best career average in program history.
The Lumberjacks are set to kickoff the 2011 season Thursday, Sept. 1 against McMurry. The game against McMurry is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Homer Bryce Stadium.
