NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack head tennis coach Patrick Sullivan has recorded another first, in what has been a season of firsts, for SFA tennis. The Ladyjacks' 2011 recruiting class has been ranked No. 23 nationally by the www.tennisrecruiting.net, which is the premier tennis recruiting service in the country.
"It is exciting for our 2011 class to be recognized like this," said Sullivan. "It is a sign that the best tennis players in the world have noticed what we are doing at SFA and want to be part of it. Several of these girls chose SFA over top 25 and even top 10 tennis teams and it certainly takes some courage to pass on established programs in order to build something from the ground up. At the same time, it is a rare and exciting challenge to get to be part of something special from the very beginning and these girls didn't become the best in the world by shying away from challenges. I can't wait to get them on campus."
It marks the first time in program or Southland Conference history that a school's incoming class has received a top-25 national ranking. The Ladyjack incoming class ranks ahead established programs like Georgia Tech, Iowa, Oklahoma, Baylor and Ohio State.
The incoming class consists six players who will have four years of eligibility, and bring a high-level of competitive experience to Nacogdoches. The 2011 class includes Dalina Dahlmans (Selfkant, Germany), Daphne Friedrichs (Hüfingen, Germany), Malena Gordo (Buenos Aires, Argentina), Elena Kordolaimi (Lamia, Greece), Julia Lorca (Lyon, France), Nataly Yoo (Buenos Aires, Argentina).
