NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Daphne Friedrichs has announced her intentions to continue her education, and play tennis at Stephen F. Austin released head coach Patrick Sullivan Thursday morning. Friedrichs is the second member of the Ladyjacks' 2011 signing class from Germany.
"I am incredibly excited to add Daphne to what is already one of the top recruiting classes in the country," said Sullivan. "She has a first-rate academic and athletic background and I believe the transition will be a smooth one for her in both aspects. "Daphne has a big-league game and has posted recent wins over some very solid professionals, so she will be coming to SFA with a lot of confidence, which will be a huge asset for this very young team. I'm looking forward to coaching her and think she is going to be a very special player for this team," added Sullivan.
A native of Hüfingen, Germany, Friedrichs began playing tennis at age 10 on the same high-performance German national select squads where Steffi Graf and Boris Becker began their tennis careers. She comes to Nacogdoches ranked No. 124 on the German open rankings, and 877th in the world rankings which place her among Germany's top 26 junior players. She enters the collegiate game as one of the top-ranked incoming players in the 2011 class.
Friedrichs currently plays in the French Equipe 1 Féminine for Club de Lyon, where she is a teammate and doubles partner of current SFA signee Julia Lorca.
