
'Jacks Finish Second at Branson Creek

HOLLISTER, Mo. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team just missed winning its second tournament in as many weeks. The SFA men fired a 295 Tuesday morning to finish the tournament with a three-round 896, but were bested by tournament-host Missouri State (305-300-290 - 895) by one stroke.
The Lumberjacks placed three in the top five, led by junior Stetson McMillan who recorded a three-round 73-74-72 to record a runner-up finish with a six-over par 219. Sophomore Mitchell McLeroy and senior Richard Wilkenfeld were five strokes off McMillan's pace with a 224.
The Ladyjacks recorded their second consecutive strong outing by finishing sixth overall at the HBU Invitational in Houston. Senior Noelle Willcoxon who carded a 240 to finish tied for 13th overall led the Ladyjacks. Freshman Marissa Bransburg was only six strokes back of Willcoxon with an 82-86-78 - 246. Sophomore Chelsea Simmons recorded a 251 to place tied for 36th overall.
The SFA men return to action Sunday when they travel to Victoria, Texas to compete in the Jim West Intercollegiate, while the Ladyjacks will take a week off before opening the Southland Conference Championships in Corpus Christi, Texas.
