HOUSTON, Texas - The Lumberjacks needed just seven hits to post 13 runs on Tuesday at Husky Field, picking up its first run-rule win of the year, 13-1, in seven innings over Houston Baptist.
SFA (21-9) has now won each of the nine meetings between the teams since 2008 and complete the season sweep of the Huskies (2-22) after also picking up a 6-0 win in Nacogdoches on March 8.
Justin Braddock pushed his record to 3-1 on the year with 5.0 innings of work, striking out three and allowing just three hits and one unearned run. Reid Landers made his first appearance since the opening weekend of the year and tossed two shutout innings of relief, allowing just one bunt single.
The `Jacks chased HBU starter Kobie Hadjik from the hill after just 1.1 innings with the freshman taking the loss in his first decision of the season.
Garrett Smitih picked up a pair of RBI hits and Bryson Myles reached base in four of five plate appearances, scoring four times and stealing a pair of bases to up his national-leading total to 28 for the season. Jarid Scarafiotti added a three-run homer in the seventh for the final runs of the game, while the `Jacks were able to take advantage of nine HBU walks and five errors.
SFA scored in five of the seven innings on the day, building a 5-0 lead after the first two frames and cruising from there. Houston Baptist added an unearned run in the third, but left runners stranded in scoring position in three of the next four innings.
The `Jacks will be back in action on Friday when they open a three-game series against UTSA. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
