
Ladyjacks Defeat Texas State

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team improved to 16-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play Saturday defeating the Texas State Bobcats, 4-3, at the Schlief Tennis Complex. The Ladyjacks remain undefeated at home, and remain only one game back of Texas-Arlington in the league standings, who SFA faces Sunday morning.
In the doubles competition, junior Alina Shazkho and sophomore Alice Pacaut rolled over Melissa Hadad and Jessica Kahts 8-1 at No.1. In the No. 2 match, senior Andreea Enica and sophomore Paola Montuenga defeated the Bobcats' Gabriela Rojas and Berenice VanDen Ber, 8-5.
In singles action, Alina Shazkho won 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 over Jessica Kahts at the No.1. Paola Montuenga fell to Melissa Hadad 6-4, 6-2 at No.2, while freshman Ksenia Berestetska defeated Gabriela Rojas 6-2, 6-3. Sophomore Alice Pacaut and senior Andreea Enica fell at No. 4 and 5 singles, while Meaghan Ocanas won the deciding match to hand SFA a one-point victory. Ocanas recorded a 6-3, 5-7, 6-2, victory at No. 6 singles.
"The quality of the effort and the grit was A+," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "We are excited and proud of the 16-1 start, but are also focused on finishing the season strong."
The Ladyjacks will return to the courts Sunday hosting Texas-Arlington. The match is slated to begin at 11 a.m. from the Schlief Tennis Complex.
