'Jacks Fall to Ninth at Jim West Intercollegiate

VICTORIA, Texas - The Jim West Intercollegiate did not end the way it began for the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team. SFA closed out the first day in fourth, but fell to ninth after a final-round 302 on the par-72, 6,870-yard Victoria Country Club course. It is the first time in the last three weeks that SFA did not finish either first or second at a tournament.
The field of 15 teams finished the tournament in a log jam. Although ninth overall, SFA was only 10 strokes out of third place with a 297-299-302 - 898.
The 'Jacks were led by junior Stetson McMillan who carded a 73-73-76 - 222 to place 18th overall. Sophomore Mitchell McLeroy was only two strokes off McMillan's pace with a 224. McLeroy finished the day with a two-over 74 to finish tied for 25th. Senior Kyle Robbins fired his second consecutive round of 75 to place 34th overall (76-75-75 - 226).
Freshman Jason Fiscus posted his toughest round of the tournament Tuesday when he shot a five-over 77. He finished the three rounds with a 227 to place tied for 35th overall. Senior Ricky Wilkenfeld also struggled in the final round posting a three-round 79-76-80 - 235. Wilkenfeld placed tied for 65th overall.
The SFA men will take a week off before returning to action at the Southland Conference Championships. The championships will take place Monday, April 25th, through Wednesday, April 27th in Arlington, Texas.
