
Ladyjacks Eighth At Capital City Classic

DOVER, Del. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team went 2-2 Saturday on the second day of the Capital City Classic. SFA goes into Sunday's competition seeded eighth.
Saturday, SFA dropped matches against host Delaware State and Maryland Eastern Shore, but picked up wins over Morgan State and St. Francis. The action consisted of standard format matches.
"We were solid in spots today," SFA head coach Laura Cramer said. "We need to be more consistent tomorrow and hopefully we can move up in the final standings."
Delaware State took a 998-846 verdict in the opener. Nicole Parkhurst led SFA with a 200, while Dustie Hammond bowled a 178.
In the Match 2 win over Morgan State, SFA took an 883-832 decision behind a 204 by Sierra Gibbons. Parkhurst contributed with a 184.
Maryland Eastern Shore put up a big number in the third match, taking a 1,016-800 win.
In the final match of the day, the Ladyjacks got very solid performances from Parkhurst, Whitney McCoy and Ashli Rosenkranz to take the win. Parkhurst rolled a 220, McCoy came through with a 196, and Rosenkranz bowled a 193.
Parkhurst averaged 189 for the day, with Gibbons averaging 180.
On Day 1 of the tournament, SFA went 3-2 in total-pin baker matches with a pair of close losses.
The Ladyjacks dropped consecutive match-ups with Hampton and Norfolk State. In the opener, Hampton took a 786-766 verdict, then Norfolk State handed SFA a 750-691 defeat.
SFA got on track in the third match, knocking off Bethune Cookman, 719-611. The match featured a 223 by SFA in the fourth game, the Ladyjacks' high score for the day.
In the fourth match, SFA took a 764-674 win against North Carolina A&T, then the Ladyjacks knocked off Howard in a rematch, 737-659.
SFA went into Saturday's action in eighth place based on total pin count.
"Sierra and Nicole both did a tremendous job the first day," Cramer said. "They were very solid and kept the team alive through some tough breaks."
The Ladyjacks are the No. 8 seed going into Sunday's final competition. Sunday's action will be best-of-seven baker matches in a seeded bracket.
