NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The National Tenpins Coaches Association released its first national bowling poll of the season and Stephen F. Austin is ranked 13th in the nation in the preseason poll.
"Being ranked 13th is a great start to the season and gives us additional motivation because we want to be ranked in the top 8 before the season is over," SFA head coach Amber Lemke said. "We know that we will have to work hard this season because our tournaments feature many high-ranked teams. This team is more than capable of achieving everything they set their minds to and I'm looking forward to great things happening this year."
The Ladyjacks are coming off a season-opening match against Sam Houston State that was streamed live on the United States Bowling Congress website. SFA lost two standard-format games -- the second by a narrow margin -- before picking up a win against the Bearkats in Baker format.
Following that performance, SFA finds itself behind Sam Houston (7th) in the initial NTCA poll of the year.
The Ladyjacks will continue their season this weekend when they take part in the Greater Ozark Invitational. The three-day tournament in Springfield, Mo., begins Friday.
