NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team finished the fall semester ranked among the nation's top 20 teams. SFA was tabbed No. 15 in the December edition of the National Tenpin Coaches Association poll after posting a 15-13 record in fall competitions.
The Ladyjacks picked up multiple wins over ranked teams during the fall to move onto the list for the first time this season. SFA began the year by receiving votes in the preseason poll.
"It's always nice to see your efforts get some recognition," SFA coach Laura Cramer said. "This ranking reflects the fact that the team worked hard in the fall and put up good results against some tough competition."
The national ranking lends the Ladyjacks some momentum as they head into a challenging spring schedule. SFA opens the 2011 slate on Jan. 14 with a trip to Cabot, Ark., for the Arkansas State Mid-Winter Classic. Arkansas State is ranked No. 6 in the December NTCA poll. The tournament is a three-day event.
Two weeks later, SFA will take part in the Kutztown Invitational, a three-day tournament starting on Jan. 28. Kutztown is the No. 7 team in the latest NTCA poll. The tournament will be streamed live online at the US Bowling Congress website, www.bowl.com.
The Ladyjacks will begin the month of February with the three-day Delaware State Capital Classic, starting on Feb. 11. Delaware State is ranked No. 17 by the NTCA.
On Feb. 25, SFA will travel to Bessemer, Ala., for the Holiday Classic, then the Ladyjacks will wrap up their regular-season slate with the Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn., starting on March 18.
