KUTZTOWN, Pa. - Stephen F. Austin went 2-1 in bracket play Sunday on the final day of the Kutztown Invitational to finish seventh in the biggest college bowling tournament in the country.
The Ladyjacks went into Sunday's action seeded seventh. They took best-of-seven baker matches against Sacred Heart and Morgan State with a loss to Delaware State in between.
"I'm very happy with the way we bowled this weekend," SFA head coach Laura Cramer said. "This is a big-time event with some big-time programs and we held our own all weekend. This tells me we're definitely headed in the right direction."
SFA won the first three games in the opener against Sacred Heart before losing Games 4 and 5. The Ladyjacks then notched a solid 222-176 decision in Game 6 to take the match.
In the second match, SFA dropped four straight games to Delaware State to put the Ladyjacks in the seventh-place match against Morgan State. They took the match in five games, winning the first, second, fourth and fifth.
Nicole Parkhurst delivered a strike in the 10th frame of Game 5 to seal the victory. Cramer also lauded Sierra Gibbons for a solid effort from start to finish.
SFA will be back in action in two weeks, when the Ladyjacks play in the Delaware State Capital Classic Feb. 11-13.
