NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Senior Jabara Williams and Kenneth Charles have been named 2010 College Sporting News Preseason All-American announced publication officials Tuesday afternoon. Williams garnered first-team honors, while Charles is a third-team selection.
A 2010 Buck Buchanan Award Watch List selection, Williams is widely considered one of the top defensive players in the country. He was the catalyst for one of the most improved defenses in the country last season. The 'Jacks finished among the nation's top 20 in tackles for losses and sacks. Williams enters his final season with more than 300 career tackles, including 19 for losses and 5.5 sacks.
Charles is a former walk-on who has transformed himself into one of the top defensive players in the Southland Conference. He finished his junior campaign with 50 tackles, including 11 for losses and nine sacks. Charles closed out the year by earning second-team All-SLC honors.
The defending conference champion Lumberjacks will open the 2010 season Saturday, Sept. 4, when they travel to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M. The game against the Aggies is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Kyle Field.
