'Jacks Eighth in FCS Coaches' Preseason Poll

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack football team will enter the 2010 season ranked eighth in the nation according to the FCS Coaches' Preseason Top 25 poll released Monday afternoon.
SFA, one of only two Southland Conference schools to debut in the preseason poll, received 413 points in the poll. The Lumberjack finished the season ranked ninth in the final 2009 FCS Coaches Top 25 Poll.
A unanimous favorite to repeat as Southland Conference Champions, the Lumberjacks continue to receive high praise from voters around the country. SFA has been ranked in the top 10 in all but one preseason poll including ranked has high as sixth (The Sporting News). The FCS Coaches' poll is one of four different polls to have SFA ranked eighth to start the season. Phil Steele's football magazine is the lone publication to have SFA ranked outside the preseason top 10 (No. 12).
The Lumberjacks will open the 2010 season Saturday, Sept. 4, when they travel to College Station, Texas to take on Texas A&M. The game against the Aggies is slated to begin at 6 p.m. from Kyle Field.
