
SFA Football Takes Sunday Off

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Following the team's first fall scrimmage, the Lumberjack football team took Sunday off and will get back to practice Monday morning. SFA opened the first week of practice with 6:30 p.m. workouts, but the team has returned to its normal 7 a.m. schedule. SFA closes out the week with its second of two planned scrimmages Saturday, Aug. 21.
NOTES: •Whitehouse native Brady Attaway was 8-for-17 for 117 yards in the scrimmage. Texas Tech transfer Garrett Riley completed 9-of-15 passes for 67 yards and recorded a touchdown pass.
•As a group SFA gained 43 yards rushing on 16 carries and was led by Rice transfer Broderick Jackson who had three carries for 25 yards.
•The 'Jacks' first-team defense recorded two stops inside the red zone to start the scrimmage, including an interception by sophomore corner Josh Aubrey. It was one of two interceptions on the night (Ben Wells). The defense also finished the night with three sacks and a fumble recovery by Newton's Malcolm Mattox, which was returned for a touchdown. Sophomore Ryan Epperson led SFA with six tackles, including one for a sack and a pass deflection.
•The annual Meet the 'Jacks is slated for Monday Aug. 30th. It will be held in the Dr. Baker Pattillo Student Center.
