Ladyjacks Fall to Northwestern State

NATCHITOCHES, Louisiana - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team lost 6-1 Saturday to Northwestern at the Jack Fisher Tennis Complex.
The loss drops SFA 6-2 overall and 2-1 in SLC play, while Northwestern improves to 6-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.
Alina Shazko was the only Ladyjack able to break away with a victory in No. 2 singles, defeating Adna Curukovic 6-1, 6-7.
The remaining three singles matches were dropped in straight sets. Roxana Enica was defeated 6-3, 6-4 by Olga Bazhanova. Teammate Paola Muntenga fell short 6-1, 6-1 to Martina Rubesova, while NSU's Kathrin Lange beat Tatiana Smolnikova 6-4, 6-1.
In doubles competition, No. 1 seed Roxana Enica and Alina Shazko finished strong with a 9-7 win over Olga Bazhanova and Adna Curukovic. Paola Munuenga and Alice Pacaust dropped their set 8-1 to Martina Rubesova and Andrea Nedorostova, while Kathrin Lange and Bianca Schulz defeated SFA's Tatiana Smolnikova and Meaghan Ocanas 8-5.
The Ladyjacks take on Central Arkansas tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. where they will look to rebound from today's loss and improve on their 2-1 conference record.
