NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Three months into the first season in the history of SFA bowling, the Ladyjacks are set for another first this weekend when they host the first Piney Woods Classic at Texas Pro Bowl on Saturday and Sunday.
SFA will play host to a quartet of teams with Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M, Grambling and Southern all coming to Nacogdoches for the inaugural tournament. Play is set to begin at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday with admission being free for all attendees.
"This is an exciting event with it being the first NCAA bowling event in the East Texas area this weekend," SFA head coach Laura Cramer said. "It has been a lot of work to get this thing on the calendar and to put it on, but we have had a lot of cooperation concerning this weekend and I am confident that this will be a great week for not only SFA but for the Nacogdoches community."
The Ladyjacks are coming off a strong showing last weekend at the Kutztown Invitational in Reading, Penn., and were on the cusp of breaking into the national polls in the latest NTPCA count. Southern and Prairie View A&M were also in the mix just outside of the national top 20 and should make for a competitive weekend.
The format for the weekend will consist of total pins over the course of the two days with the teams playing five total-pin team matches on Saturday before playing four total pin Baker games on Sunday.
"It's going to be a fun weekend and I know the girls are excited to be able to play at home and not have to get in a van and travel," Cramer said. "Hopefully we can play well in a comfortable environment and pick up some wins against some quality competition."
