MILLSBORO, Del. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack bowling team went 4-1 against some tough competition Friday on the opening day of the Hawk Classic. SFA competed against five nationally ranked programs, including defending national champion Fairleigh Dickinson, and came away with four wins.
All five matches were quad baker format contests. The tournament is scored based on total pin count. SFA goes into Day 2 Saturday third in total pins.
The Ladyjacks opened with an 811-766 loss to St. Francis. But SFA rebounded with an 832-794 win over Delaware State. The Ladyjacks followed that up with an 846-708 verdict against Adelphi. In Game 4, SFA knocked off Fairleigh Dickinson in a nail-biter, 737-732. Then the Ladyjacks finished strong with a 744-718 win over Sacred Heart.
Saturday's action will switch to standard format with the Ladyjacks again slated for five matches.
