NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Record-setting quarterback Jeremy Moses will guide the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks into the rigors of the conference schedule beginning Saturday with a date at McNeese State. For Moses, it will be his last trip through the challenging Southland Conference schedule. Moses enters Saturday's contest as the owner of two Southland Conference career marks, with two more on the horizon.
Earlier this year, Moses became the conference's all-time leader in completions and yards passing, while at the same time becoming the first SLC quarterback to record 900 career completions and only the second conference player to pass for 10,000 yards. He is only the third conference player to record at least 10,000 yards of total offense in a career.
Moses is on the verge of owning two more conference records as the Lumberjacks approach the midpoint of the 2010 season. He needs only four touchdown passes, and 657 yards of total offense to claim those conference standards.
With two other SLC records coming closer into view, Moses can now set his sights on placing his name in the NCAA career record books. Moses is now creeping up on the NCAA Division I all-time top 30 in several statistical categories. He needs 2,395 yards of total offense and 18 touchdown passes to move into the top 30, 1,973 passing yards to move into the top 25 and three completions to move into the NCAA Division I top 20 (List of NCAA completions leaders created from career total offense stats due to the fact the records book did not contain a completions list).
If you look at just the NCAA FCS level, Moses' numbers are even stronger. Moses is currently 27th all-time with 10,336 yards of total offense, 26th all-time with 10,596 passing yards, tied for 10th all-time with 96 touchdown passes and sixth with 955 completions (List of NCAA completions leaders created from career passing yard stats due to the fact the records book did not contain a completions list). If Moses throws four more touchdown passes this season, he will be only the 10th FCS quarterback to complete 100 touchdown passes in a career.
If we localize Moses' accomplishment, his name is one that will not soon be forgotten in Nacogdoches. Flipping through the SFA records books Moses owns nine of the school's top 10 single-game completion marks, and the school's top-two single-season completions marks. Moses also has recorded the school's fourth, sixth and seventh-best single-game marks in terms of passing yards. His season passing yardage numbers in 2009 and 2008 are the university's second and third best single-season numbers, respectively. His 41 touchdown passes in 2008, and his 40 scoring strikes in 2009 are also the second and third best single-season marks in SFA history.
